New York State’s Universal Free Meals Program provides all students in participating schools with access to reimbursable breakfast and lunch at no cost to families.
Key details of the program include:
Eligibility: All students in participating public schools are eligible to receive one reimbursable breakfast and one reimbursable lunch each school day, regardless of household income.
Family Savings: The program is designed to help reduce household food costs and increase access to nutritious meals for students.
Reimbursable Meals: Free meals include standard breakfast and lunch options that meet state and federal nutrition guidelines. Specialty items, second meals, and à la carte snacks may still be available for purchase.
Household Income Forms: Although meals are provided at no cost, families may still be asked to complete an alternative household income form. This information helps schools secure important state and federal funding that supports educational programs and services.
