National French Week at JMS

Bonne semaine de la langue française!

Students of French at JMS have been busy celebrating National French Week, which runs from October 31 – November 4.  Lesson this week in the 7th and 8th grade French classes focused on the celebration of French language and Francophone culture.  Highlights of the week included a tasting of different French cheeses, and French cookies.  On Wednesday, JMS students experienced French culture first-hand: they tried a variety of French cheeses, such as brie, comté, and boursin.  During the tasting, students practiced their pronunciation of these food items, and expressed their cheese preferences.  There was also a great deal of cultural learning.  Ms. Mueller taught about the different regions of France where cheeses derive, and discussed the Appellation d'Origine Contrôlée (AOC).  Furthermore, students learned that in French culture cheese is typically not spread over bread, but simply eaten on top of it.  We thank Ms. Mueller for putting together this incredible celebration of French culture for our students.
