Press Release Regarding the Appointment of the Next Superintentendent
The Jericho Board of Education is excited to announce the appointment of Dr. Robert L. Kravitz, a dynamic and accomplished educational leader, as our next Superintendent of Schools. At a special meeting tonight, we unanimously approved Dr. Kravitz’s contract.
This hiring concludes an extensive and exhaustive six-month search process conducted by the Board with assistance from the national recruiting firm Hazard, Young, Attea & Associates. We gathered substantial community input through small group meetings, large forums and stakeholder surveys, evaluated numerous candidates, and completed a thorough interview and vetting process. The Board strongly believes that Dr. Kravitz’s successful track record demonstrates that we are hiring a leader who aligns with our District’s vision, shares our commitment to academic excellence, and possesses the qualities most important to our Jericho community.
Dr. Kravitz brings over twenty years of experience working in education to Jericho. He has served as the Superintendent of Schools for the Fort Lee School District since 2021, overseeing the education of more than 4,000 students across six buildings in grades PK-12. He is also an Adjunct Professor at both William Patterson University and Saint Peter’s University.
Previously, he served as Superintendent for the Englewood Public School District (PK-12) for six years and the Englewood Cliffs School District (K-8) for three years. Prior to those roles, he worked as an elementary principal where under his leadership his school received a National Blue Ribbon designation, an achievement recounted in his book Blue Ribbon Story: An Entrepreneur’s Success in Education.
Dr. Kravitz earned his Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Seton Hall University. He received both a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership and a Master of Business Administration from Saint Peter’s University, as well as a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from Rutgers University.
Dr. Kravitz will complete his tenure in Fort Lee before his official start date on July 1, 2025. To facilitate a smooth transition, over the next three months the Board will coordinate visits by Dr. Kravitz to meet members of our community. These conversations will involve our key stakeholder groups – students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration. He is eager to speak with all of you. When you see Dr. Kravitz in our buildings during these visits, feel free to say hello and introduce yourselves.
We look forward to commencing our District’s next chapter together. Please join us in warmly welcoming Dr. Kravitz to Jericho.
Sincerely,
The Jericho Board of Education
