Chinese New Year 2025 農曆新年

On January 28, 2025, the eve of the Chinese New Year (除夕), the students of Chinese at Jericho High School made dumplings (餃子) while watching the CCTV gala program.  This is a tradition of many people in mainland China.  Students gathered together to assemble the dumplings, either vegetarian or pork.  We thank Ms. Han and Ms. Li for organizing this culturally relevant activity for our students of Chinese.

Right at the end of the school day, three students from the AP Chinese class, Ximing Hao, Jonathan Chau, and Lawrence Yin, performed a Lion Dance (舞獅) also at Jericho High School.  The Lion made its way down the second floor hallway passing the Little Theater.  Students followed the Lion as it made its boisterous way to the Front Circle, where it performed its traditional dance.  These same three students also performed the Lion Dance at each of our elementary schools on Thursday (年初二).  We thank Ms. Li for coordinating this activity with our students.

All of these activities fall in line with the national ACTFL World Readiness standards for foreign language learning, namely Culture, in terms of products and practices.
