You can use these search engines to locate information on the Internet. Not all information on the Internet is accurate. You can use our Jericho Middle School Evaluating Web Sites Form to help you select good sites. The Jericho Middle School's form for evaluating Web sites will open with Adobe Acrobat Reader, which you can download free if your computer dosen't already have it. You should verify information you find on the Internet in other resources as well. Good luck researching!

WebFeet Guides is a subscription service from Thomson Gale that provides trusted Internet sites that were evaluated by educators for students in grades one through twelve. The password for WebFeet can be found on the Jericho Middle School Library password page. |
Search engines are programs that accept a user's query, search a database, and return to the user those records that match the query. A software program (called a spider or bot) goes out on the Web and gets new sites for the database.

An Internet directory is a collection of Web page records classified by subject to enable easy browsing of the collection. People from the Internet community add sites they like to the directory.
Virtual libraries are collections of Internet resources that are evaluated, selected, organized, and described by librarians or subject experts to help people locate information on the Internet.
