Gale Databases - This service includes the following databases:

  • InfoTrac Junior Edition - K12 - this version of InfoTrac is designed specifically for Middle School students
  • Student Resource Center - Gold: contains primary documents, biographies, full-text coverage of over 1,000 magazines and newspapers.
  • General Reference Center: contains full-text articles from magazines, newspapers, reference books, and images.
  • Biography Resource Center: contains biographies from respected Gale Group sources and full-text articles from hundreds of periodicals. You can search for people using personal facts such as birth and death year, nationality, ethnicity, occupation or gender.
  • History Resource Center US. contains over 1,000 historical (primary) documents, more then 30,000 reference articles, and over 65 full-text journal covering themes, events, individuals and periods in U.S. history from pre-Colonial times to the present
  • Literature Resource Center: covers more than 120,000 novelists, poets, essayists, journalists, and other writers, with in-depth coverage of 2,500 of the most-studied authors.
  • Expanded Academic ASAP: Access scholarly journals, news magazines, and newspapers across all academic disciplines, many with full text and images.
  • Opposing Viewpoints - articles from the social issues series published by Greenhaven Press, as well as core reference content from other Gale and Macmillan Reference USA sources provide a complete source for information on social issues.

The Jericho Middle School Library is registered for some Thomson Gale Databases through NOVEL. - Provided by the New York State Library, NOVEL is an online virtual library connecting New Yorkers to 21st century information via local libraries statewide. NOVEL is currently supported with temporary federal Library Services and Technology Act funds. You can access the these Gale Group Databases from NOVEL:

  • Health Reference Center - includes articles on fitness, pregnancy, medicine, nutrition, diseases, public health, occupational health safety, alcohol and drug abuse, HMOs, Prescription drugs, etc.
  • Business and Company ASAP - search this database to find detailed company and industry news and information.
  • .
  • The Twane Author Series - Twayne World, English, and US Authors -contains the full text of 200 frequently used Twayne Literary Masters books on individual authors.
  • Informe - Una colección de revistas hispánicas con textos completos. Abarca negocios, salud, tecnología, cultura, temas de actualidad y otras materias.
  • Custom Newspapers - the full text of articles from 150 newspapers, national and international. Includes The New York Times from 2000 - present.
  • New York State Newspapers - the full text of ten major newspapers in New York State. Includes The New York Post, and The New York Times (2000 - present).
  • National Newspaper Index - indexes The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, The Christian Science Monitor, Los Angeles Times and The Washington Post from 1977 - present.
  • Healthand Wellness Resource Center and Alternative Health Module 1980-2007
  • Gale Virtual Reference Library - encyclopedias and specialized reference sources for multidisciplinary research.

EBSCO -this service from EBSCO Publishing includes the following databases:

  • MAS Ultra - School Edition - contains over 500 popular general magazines going back as far as 1975. Also contains pamphlets, reference books, biographies, primary source documents, and image collection.
  • Newspaper Source - contains the full text for over 180 U.S. newspapers, international newspapers and newswires.
  • Professional Development Collection - Designed for professional educators, this database provides a highly specialized collection of over 500 full text journals, including nearly 350 peer-reviewed titles. Professional Development Collection is the most comprehensive collection of full text education journals in the world.
  • ERIC - the Educational Resource Information Center contains more than 2,200 full text digests, and citations and abstracts for over 980 education-related journals.
  • MagillOnLiterature - contains critical reviews and plot summaries of popular works of literature.
  • TOPIC Search - explores popular topics discussed in today's classrooms
  • Columbia Granger's Poetry Database: School Edition -Columbia Granger's Poetry Database is an index of poetry found in anthologies as well as those found in the collected works of individual poets. This database currently has nearly 50,000 poems in full text and more than 400,000 poem citations.

New Century Libraries is an important statewide funding initiative currently before the Legislature that proposes permanent state funding for NOVEL.

SIRS Knowledge Source (ProQuest K-12)

  • SIRS Researcher - contains full-text magazine and newspaper articles on general reference topics, social issues, health, science, and business.
  • SIRS Government Researcher - contains historic government documents, directories and almanacs.
  • SIRS Renaissance - contains full-text articles on current perspectives on the arts and humanities
  • SIRS Discoverer - this general reference database was designed for middle school students

NewsBank - contains the full-text of over 70,000 articles, going back to 1991, from more than 500 newspapers and other news sources around the world.

  • America's Historical Newspapers (1690 - 1922)
    All primary source documents covering 500 U.S. Historical Newspapers from 50 States.
    Find news articles covering topics in government, politics, social issues, culture, literature, discoveries, inventions and more from hundreds of primary sources . Search using either the timeline or topic search to easily find news and eyewitness accounts and pro/con articles of events, issues and daily life in the colonies or during the Revolutionary War, westward expansion, the Civil War, Reconstruction, industrialization, the Progressive Era, World War I and other eras.
