Jericho Middle School Students see

Good Vibrations

on Broadway

February 16, 2005

On Wednesday, February 16, 2005, eighth graders from "That's Entertainment" and English 8 exploratories participated in a program entitled Camp Broadway. Students and their teachers, Ms Scalera and Mr. Verderber, traveled into Manhattan for a fun-filled adventure. The day began at the legendary B.B. King's where students prepared to see the show Good Vibrations by learning surfer terms, using improvisational skills, creating harmony, composing new lyrics to Beach Boys' songs, and eating lunch with professional actors.

Following the workshop, students made their way to the Eugene O'Neill Theatre for the Broadway musical, Good Vibrations. They were mesmerized by the energetic, talented cast of young actors whose harmonies were reminiscent of the real Beach Boys. Bopping in their seats and clapping along with the upbeat tempos, audience members were thrilled to "ride the waves" of this musical journey.

As part of the Camp Broadway program, students were invited to have a question and answer session with cast members and musicians of the production. Hearing these professionals tell about the hard work and dedication that goes into a career in the arts was extremely impressive and inspirational to all involved.

These students had "fun, fun, fun" "til the school bus had to take them away.
