Reflecting on September 11th Through Poetry

To commemorate the 5th anniversary of the September 11th tragedy, Mr. Gately, the Jericho Middle School principal, hosted a poetry reading in the library. The coordinators of the B.R.A.V.E. program (Bully Reduction Anti-Violence Education), along with the school social worker, Joanne Verdino, organized this event. Many students, administrators, and faculty members read poems of hope, peace, and heroism.
Doris Mardovich, who lost her son Edward (alumni of Jericho) on 9/11, spoke to eighth graders about making positive contributions to society.
The poetry reading culminated with a tribute to the heroes of 9/11. This solemn occasion ended on a hopeful note as everyone reflected on the courage and unity that was displayed on September 11, 2001.
