Team members meet approximately once a month with rotating chair and recorder. Meetings are generally the first Thursday of the month at 3:00. If you are interested in attending, please call the office (203-3840) to verify the date and time of the next meeting.

Mission Statement

In accordance with the New York State Commissioner's Regulation 100.11 requiring each school district to create a plan for shared decision making, the Jericho Board of Education developed and adopted a comprehensive District Plan for Implementing Shared Decision Making. "The broad purpose of Shared Decision Making is to improve our schools in a framework of trust, inclusion, collaboration, and shared responsibility." The Shared Decision Making Team is comprised of the building principal, non-instructional personnel, parents, students, teachers and learning center tutors.

Our mission at George A. Jackson Elementary School is "the improvement of educational performance for all students."

Accomplishments

Established a Community Service Committee to coordinate Community Service amongst students, parents, and teachers.

Design and creation of the September 11th Peace Plaque.

Organized and implemented a list of Volunteer Parent Translators.

Conducted school lunch survey for students resulting in a wider variety of options.

Expanded indoor recess options which include: game room, computer lab, arts and crafts and gym.

Planned and implemented Internet safety project and provided students, faculty, administration, and Board of Education members with imprinted mouse pads.

Developed and implemented "Jackson Cafe Rules"

Revised and supported the Crisis Intervention Team Plan

Revised and approved contractual "Extra Night" List

Assisted in the development of "Guidelines for Success"

Recommended and purchased additional playground equipment as a result of student participant survey

Supported availability of Jackson's study skills document

Supported the purchase of walkie talkies for recess and bus duty as suggested by the PTA Executive Board

Reviewed and provided input into the school and district budget

Recommended facilities enhancements
Some results were the installation of student bathrooms in the cafeteria, renovation of school auditorium, canopy at rear entrance and many more.

Redesigned main office viewing window to enhance security

Recommended the issuance of grade level school supply list to all students
with report cards in June
This provided the opportunity to begin the school year better prepared.

Improved communication between school and home
This included additions to PTA Handbook, and accessible main office carousel file with current information regarding programs and activities.

Provided a plan for alternative usage of school facilities
This included room allocations to accommodate increased number of classroom sections and special area offices.
