Dear members, My name is Jeffrey Shiff and I have been chosen to be your 2001-2002 Jericho FBLA Chapter Vice President. As a sophomore I was able to attend both the district and regional competitions last year and both were a great experience which motivated me for a reconstruciton of the Jericho chapter. In the district competition I placed 1st for Public Speaking and 7th at the states. As well as competing at the state competition last year I also acted as a voting delegate and attended many general sessions. These meetings showed me the immense size of the club and how small Jericho was. As mentioned at the September 13, 2001 meeting, there is a lot of politics when it comes to NY State FBLA, there is downstate and upstate. Currently downstate power is pretty much monopolized by Floral Park and upstate is controlled by Carmel HS with several other large schools. I think I agree with all the officers that I would like to share or even take the power that Floral Park HS currently has. This will be a hard task because of the size of our school, but things are so far looking good. I was very happy to because of the size of our school, but things are so far looking good. I was very happy to see 53 members at our first meeting and I am very proud and supportive of Josh Meredith's possible choice to run for State President. These two first steps accompanied by many planned projects and hopeful winners will take our next step towards downstate power. I am also happy to announce that this year we have four girl members as opposed to our one last year. When many of you decide to take the trip to Rochester you will see the numberous females, which is another area where we are lacking. One of my main jobs as Vice President besides looking over all decisions is being in charge of all trips. As Mr. Klobus said our NYC trip is pretty much either canceled or greatly postponed in response to the lastest activities. I will try hard to find other destinations such as Long Island businesses.I am also looking forward to a large turnout of the April Rochester trip and as time gets closer will plan for that. I also will try to get speakers into meetings or get actual business partnerships in order for every one to get more experience in the business world; which of course is the ultimate goal of this club. I also would like some community service events that can be associated with our club. Things are brewing in my head of an enormous activity that may take place but I do not yet want to speculate. My final hope for the upcoming year is that everyone is well educated for the competitions. Last year, Mr. Klobus was able to purchase old tests from certain competitions. These will be distributed when the time is right in order for students to prepare. Textbooks are also abailable. In conclusion, I am looking forward to the most accomplished year in Jericho FBLA history. Sincerely, Jeffrey Shiff
