Introduction

Everyone receives mail.  Writing letters is a wonderful way to communicate or talk to someone instead of calling or visiting.  Haven't you always wondered how you get the mail in your neighborhood, where it comes from and how the postman knows where to put it.  In this lesson we will work with Arthur and other friendly community helpers to learn the letter writing process and how the mailing system works.

The Task

During this lesson we will engage in the following activities:

The Process

  1. Each student will be learn how to write a friendly letter by clicking here. Each student will word process a letter using "Microsoft Word" about something they learned and were excited about in second grade.
  2. Each student will design a stamp using "Kid Pix". Click here to view stamps designed in 2000.
  3. Each student will view Arthur's Letter Writer Helper: What goes on an envelope?.  Each student will be given a blank envelope.  Each student will write in the address that is given to them. They will also write a return address.
  4. The letters will be mailed in school office through inter-office mail.
