Rainforest Webquest - Second Grade
By Mrs. Kalish

Introduction:

Rainforests are very dense, warm, wet forests. They are safe places for millions of plants and animals. Rainforests are extremely important for the Earth. The plants of the rainforest generate much of the Earth's oxygen. These plants are also very important to people in other ways; many are used in new drugs that fight disease and illness.

A classroom in South America is worried about their rainforest. They worry that the children in the United States don't know about rainforests and what is happening to them. They would like for us to learn about rainforests by researching animals and plants that make up rainforests and using information that has been gathered to make posters for our school to teach people about the importance of rainforests.

Process:

1. You will complete the rainforest worksheet # 1?

2. You be assigned an animal and complete worksheet # 2.

3. You will do a kidspiration web about your animal.

3. You will make up a riddle about your rainforest animal. List as many clues about your animal as you can.

4. Choose a layer of the rainforest that you would like to illustrate with two or three other students and complete a mural.

5. Create a poster using Microsoft Publisher telling people why rainforests are so important.
